AT&T pulls smartphone themed 9/11 tweet after mass outrage

One of America’s corporate giants has discovered the hard way that company messages related to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks are probably better left alone — especially when that message goes out on social media.

U.S.communications company AT&T posted a short message and image on its Twitter feed at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the twelfth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The tweet read “Never Forget;” attached was a picture of New York with the “towers of light” where the destroyed World Trade Center used to stand. Inserted over top of the image was a picture of an arm holding a smartphone with the towers of light highlighted on the view screen.

The response to the tweet was immediate and visceral, with many on Twitter calling the move tacky and tasteless, and many more simply coming up with variations of the f-word to throw at the company.see more..

Montreal forecast : Hot and steamy, with thundershowers on the way

Hotand steamy: that’s the forecast for Wednesday, but before the day is done there could be violent thunderstorms.

Environment Canada issued a severe weather watch at 9:41 a.m. for Montreal and Laval. “Weather conditions for these regions are favourable to the development of severe thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms could produce large hail, high winds, heavy rain and intense lightning.” The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

Shortly thereafter a severe heat and humidy warning was sent out with particular emphasis on the dangers for people with respiratory ailments, heart disease and children under four and advice to stay in the cool indoors and drink plenty of fluids.

In a week that has seen a roller coaster of weather — car heaters necessary on Monday morning, air conditioning a boon on Wednesday — the warm front that brought fog and curly hair mid-week will also usher in the possibility of up to 40 millimetres of rain later in the evening.

The seasonal high for this time of year is 20 Celsius, but the Environment Canada forecast calls for a Wednesday high of 29C and a UV index of 6. see more...

So You Think You Can Dance Winners Revealed

Fik-Shun Stegall and Amy Yakima were declared America's favourite dancers of Season 10, beating out fellow finalists Aaron Turner and JasmineHarper.

HadAaron won he would have been the first tap dancer to do so. The victory would have been especially sweet since he made it into the top 20 only because another dancer was injured.

So yes, I was disappointed for Aaron.

That being said, there's still satisfaction in seeing how far Fik-Shun has come since he competed on Live to Dance in 2011 (as 16-year-old Du-Shaunt Stegall). As Fik-Shun himself put it in the video package recounting his “journey,” “when I first showed up I was just a performer, but now I can say I'm a dancer.”

On the girls' side, I can't say I'm surprised that Amy took the prize.

Jasmine is a gorgeous dancer and had a virtually flawless season, but everything changed for Amy three weeks ago when she danced the “Wicked Game” routine with Travis Wall. Had she continued on in the cute and perky mould established in her partnership with Fik-Shun, perhaps Jasmine would have stood a chance of catching her. But Amy became a grown-up dancer with that duet, an impression reinforced by her fantastic solos and last week's stunning duet with Robert Roldan. see more...

Sons of Anarchy Cast Promises

Strapon those helmets, Sons of Anarchy fans. The cast of FX's hit biker drama promises season six to be the most "violent" and "sad" in the series' history.

"This is the second to last season, it's all guns-a-blazin', no pun intended," Kim Coates tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Get ready, because there's no pulled punches. It is flat-out, 100 percent sad this year."

The actor, who plays Tig, says that his personal anti-violence stance makes filming the show difficult at times. "Honestly, it's tough. It's tough shit," he says. "It's not even that we're doing a lot of violent stuff, it's just that it's coming to an end. You know characters will die, you know they'll be gone forever, and [Sons] is a big hit. Twerking girl on fire video was a hoax

Hoax. Prank. Jimmy Kimmel video.Call it what you want. It was all a big joke.Last week, a video popped up on YouTube from Caitlin Heller called "Worst Twerk Fail EVER" — showing a young woman's disastrous attempt at twerking by candlelight in her room and ending with up with her pants catching on fire. It has been viewed more than 9 million times.

It was picked up all over the place, including several television outlets. Some blamed Miley Cyrus' infamous Video Music Awards performance, others pointed out that twerking can be very dangerous.

On Monday night, Kimmel came clean. "We made it up," he said, explaining it had been shot two months ago.

He introduced the stunt woman in the video and explained she was "swornto secrecy," which caused her to get "numerous" comments, including a "worried" Facebook message from an ex-boyfriend. see video..

Ryan Newman in Chase after NASCAR Issues

In an unprecedented move, NASCAR levied the biggest penalty in its history Monday night and altered the makeup of its playoff field two days after it was set.

Gone from the Chase for the Sprint Cup is Michael Waltrip Racing driver Martin Truex Jr., who had made the championship playoff field after teammates Clint Bowyer and Brian Vickers apparently manipulated the outcome of Saturday night's Richmond race under orders from the team.

Ryan Newman, whose playoff hopes were seemingly thwarted by MWR's foul play, was put back into the Chase. But Jeff Gordon, also affected, remained out of the Chase.

All About Apple Event

Apple announced a deluge of products at its Cupertino campus this morning. The iPhone- and iOS-centric event naturally focused on the company’s smartphone lineup, from its new flagship iPhone 5S to the mid-range iPhone 5C to the forthcoming iOS 7. But it’s no Apple event without a few surprises tossed in, including free iWork apps and the end of the iPhone 5.

Much like the upgrade between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, the S in iPhone 5S signals an incremental, rather than dramatic, change from the iPhone 5. On the surface, it looks incredibly similar to its predecessor. It has the same shape and size, with a few key visual changes including a ring around the Home button and new metallic colors of gold, silver and a slate grey (see below).

The major upgrades are found inside — specifically a new 64-bit A7processor. Since iOS 7 is completely re-engineered for 64-bit, the iPhone 5S is totally optimized for the coming mobile operating system. It also means the phone’s CPU and GPU are 40x and 50x faster than the original iPhone. In layman’s terms, the A7 delivers twice the performance of the iPhone 5, according to Apple. A new M7 motion co-processor works alongside the A7 chip to continuously measure motion from the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope. It offloads the work from the A7 chip for power efficiency, which new fitness and health apps can build on.

Battery life only got slightly better compared to the iPhone 5. Apple says that you’ll be able to get 10 hours of talk time or LTE/Wi-Fibrowsing, or 250 hours of standby time.

For the iPhone 5S camera, Apple went the HTC route with larger, rather than more, pixels. The new sensor has pixels that are 15 percent larger than the ones on the iPhone 5. And the LED flash got a major upgrade with what Apple is calling “True Tone Flash.” It’s made up of two LEDs, one white and the other a warm amber color. You can adjust the type of flash you need for the photo setting, with more than 1,000 variations. The iOS 7 camera app will take advantage of the new camera with several software upgrades, including a burst mode feature and a slow-motion video capture.see more...
