Humble Bundle Raises Money for 5 Charities

Electronic Arts and the Humble Bundle crew have partnered up to let gamers buy six EA games for whatever price they want. Paying more than the average purchase price (currently $4.73) unlocks two bonus titles. In a special twist, 100% of the proceeds go to charity - no money is going to EA or to Humble Bundle Inc.

All eight games are redeemable via EA's online service Origin. Steam keys are also included for all the games besides DeadSpace 3 and Battlefield3.

The normal humble bundle sliders that let purchasers determine what amount they want to give to developers, humble organizers and charities have been replaced with five charity-only sliders. Purchasers can contribute to Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, SanFrancisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American RedCross.

When drafting this story the amount raised for charity was already over $90,000 and has since grown to over $250,000.

Bacon burger meal at CNE weight 7,500 calories

The Notorious P.I.G. Combo features three-way oink in the “CanuckBurger” — two ground-bacon patties, a slice of peameal, crispybacon strips, cheddar — an order of bacon-cheese fries and a peanutbutter and bacon milkshake to wash it all down, of course.

For dessert: last year’s carnival hit, the bacon-wrapped, deep fried Mars Bar.

At about 7,500 calories — so its creator estimates — this “meal” not only flies in the face of a 2,000 calorie a day diet. It just might be the most artery-clogging offering at the CNE this year. The fair opens Friday.

“You don’t have to eat for a few days after!” says Baconation foodconcession co-owner Dan Motta, who came up with the P.I.G., which he swears is for sharing. Sold for $30, it comes with a T-shirt that says “you conquered it.”

“We’re just giving people what they want,” he says.

Gia Allemand Dead at 29: She dies in Suicide by hanging

Reality TV beauty Gia Allemand, who grew up in Queens, N.Y., and experienced televised heartbreak on “The Bachelor,” died Wednesday — two days after her boyfriend found her hanging in her New Orleans home.

The 29-year-old former Maxim model was removed from a life-support machine at a hospital after doctors determined she suffered a “critical loss of brain and organ function,” her family said in a statement.

“Ms.Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend and other lifelong friends by her side,” the statement said. “As a practicing Christian, Gia did received the sacrament of last rites.”

There was no immediate word if Allemand left a suicide note.

Allemand’s boyfriend, NBA player Ryan Anderson of the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered her limp body hanging in her house Monday and called 911.

She was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans, where Anderson and her mother, Donna, kept vigil over her.

Why 'Duck Dynasty' rules reality TV

A proposal for a TV show about a Louisiana family that makes duck calls didn't have to go far to find doubters. They were seated at the dinner table.

"I said, 'This will never work. Nobody's going to watch that,'" remembers Jase Robertson, who works for the family business. "My dad (Phil) echoed that. I think he said something along the lines of 'A redneck family, they're not going to run that.' "

Well, they did run it, and people watched. Lots of people. A&E's DuckDynasty, which opens its fourth season Wednesday (10 p.m. ET/PT), has become a ratings phenomenon, ranking behind only AMC's zombie hit The Walking Dead last season among cable series.

The reality series that follows the bearded Robertson clan and their Monroe, La., outdoor sporting-goods business grew 95% in viewers last season, averaging 8.4 million viewers.

Dynasty is designed as a modern-day sitcom with a rich cast of characters including patriarch and duck-call creator Phil; his wife Kay and sons Willie, the CEO; Jase, who makes the duck calls but would rather be hunting or fishing; and Jep; and Phil's offbeat brother, Si.

Kendrick Lamar blash rap peers

Big Sean's seven-minute Control track didn't make his upcoming Hall of Fame album because of sample-clearance issues, but that's not why its release on the Internet ignited a brushfire of controversy.

The track, produced by NO I.D., features verses by Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. It's Lamar's chest-thumping spiel that has fans and peers reacting with shock, outrage and, mostly, cheers.

Lamar, who hails from Compton, anoints himself the most royal of rappers: "I'm Machiavelli's offspring, I'm the king of New York, king of the coast, one hand, I juggle them both."

Then he rips into scores of rappers by name, including Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Push T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Tyler, Mac Miller and even his partners on the track, Big Sean and Jay Electronica.

Pamela Wallin's troubling expense

The independent audit of Senator Pamela Wallin's expenses has been referred to the RCMP by a Senate committee that is also imposing restrictions on her travel and asking her to repay more of her expenses.

The internal economy committee met Tuesday morning on Parliament Hill and agreed to a set of recommendations in response to the Deloitte audit it received Monday. The audit assessed more than $500,000 worth of Wallin's travel claims and determined whether they were all related to Senate business or not.

The RCMP referral and other recommendations are contained in the committee's report that says Wallin had an "unusual pattern" of stopping in Toronto, where she owns a condo, on her way from Ottawa to Saskatchewan, the province she was appointed to represent in 2009. See more..

Payday 2 Review

The plan was to play it by the books: mask up, get in, get out. Grab sixbags of cash, more if we’re feeling confident. We’d go in through the back, it’s easy to lock pick that door. I’d take point, ’cause I can talk patrolling guards down; no shooting required… but we’ll put silencers on our pistols anyway, just in case. Ideally, though, nobody will see us go in.

That was we hoped would happen, anyway. Who could have guessed we’d end up here, holed up in a bank, low on ammo, SWAT team breaking in through the windows — all while we do our best to get the drill working on the safe again? And all because we ran into an ‘effin by stander on the way to the money. You know how it is nowadays, people are glued to their mobile phones. The jerk called the cops almost instantly after he saw us. Thankfully, the getaway van is supposed to be on its way, we just have to hang tight and survive the onslaught of coppers. That payday better be worth it…

Things hardly ever go to plan in Payday2, the co-op first person shooter that’s (mostly) about robberies. In the 10 hours that I’ve played it, and despite criminal planning, I’ve yet to pull a perfect heist or mission. I suspect that most players will have a similar experience; the game is definitely not easy.
