Nexus 5 shows up

Google’s collaboration with LG may bear fruit yet again today, as the Nexus 5 is rumoured to launch without the same fanfare as previous years. One needs only look at the increased frequency, and quality, of leaks in recent days to confirm its imminent announcement.
The latest set of photos come from Russian social network, VK, and show the Nexus 5 in its fingerprint-happy matte black finish. The device appears to be similar in size to the Nexus 4, with smaller bezels that offset the larger screen size, and a lack of glass to ensure a more sturdy chassis.
Other than that, the phone appears to be about as nondescript as an Android device can be, with a pronounced but unremarkable 8MP camera on the back (though OIS is rumoured), a Nexus logo written vertically along the back, and that aforementioned rubbery matte finish that should protect the phone better against knocks and falls.

GTA Online Launch

GrandTheft Auto V has been out for a couple of weeks, but a big chunk of the game—the entire multiplayer part, actually—was missing at launch. Tomorrow, the ambitious GTA Online multiplayersuite launches as a free download for anyone who owns the base game. Tomorrow at around 7AM Eastern, to be more specific. P
In a sizable update to the company blog, Rockstar has laid out a bunch of guidelines for players to get ready to take GTA V online. Right up front, they made it clear that they're not entirely sure when the online component will launch, though they're pegging it for sometime in the early morning on October 1.. see more...

Valve to launch a prototype steam box and multiple steam machines in 2014

Following the announcement of SteamOS, Valve just unveiled the long-anticipated Steam Box — sort of. Instead of releasing a Valve-branded Steam Box, the company will actually work with multiple manufacturers to release a series of Steam machines for your living room.
Yet, Valve also presented a specific prototype, a Steam machine designed by Valve. This particular machine is closer to what everyone expected. For now, only 300 copies will be produced and sent to lucky beta testers. The company doesn’t say whether those prototypes will eventually become the Steam Box, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone.
As for the Steam machines, Valve promises “an array of specifications, price, and performance.” It could be pretty similar to the Chrome book lineup. Customers will be presented with multipleperformance tiers — it should make it easier to buy a traditional gaming computer. Hardware will be hackable and you will be able to install another operating system for example. see more...

Hiroshi Yamauchi dies at 85

Hiroshi Yamauchi who transformed his great-grandfather’s playing-card company, Nintendo, into a global video game powerhouse, died on Thursday in Kyoto, Japan. He was 85.

The cause was complications of pneumonia, the company said.

Mr.Yamauchi, who led Nintendo from 1949 to 2002, was Japan’s most unlikely high-tech success story. Named president of the family business at 22, he steered Nintendo into board games, light-emitting toy guns and baseball pitching machines — fruitless forays that he later attributed to a “lack of imagination” — before the company arrived at arcade games.

Its Donkey Kong and the original Mario Bros. became hits and gave rise to Nintendo’s wildly successful home video game business.

The Nintendo Entertainment System, a console first released in Japan in 1983 as “Famicom,” unseated early leaders in the video game industry, selling more than 60 million units thanks to shrewd marketing, close attention to product quality and a crop of games based on unlikely yet endearing characters that soon became household names. see more...

Brands bet millions that Apple itunes Radio

Like any new service, iTunes Radio will have zero users when it launches on Wednesday. More important, one of the key platforms for Apple's highly-anticipated streaming music service, the iOS 7 mobile platform necessary to run iTunes Radio on iPhones and iPads, is also being released for the first time today.

But that doesn't seem to concern advertisers.

Several big brands have shelled out upwards of $10 million to be iTunes Radio launch partners, a large bet that iTunes Radio will quickly become a force in the already crowded Internet radio industry.

"We've worked with all of them," said Frank Cooper, PepsiCo's CMO for global consumer engagement, "We looked at the the devices Apple has and the number of subscribers that they have overall on iTunes. Just in terms of infrastructure, we think they have the chance to be the biggest." see more...

iOS 7 is released

Today’s release of iOS 7 is a small gamble for Apple Switching from iOS 6 to iOS 7 is a necessary step, but it’s going to be painful in the short term. For all the usefulness of iOS 7, many users are going to feel a sense of loss when they have to take iOS 6 away.
The problem with the update, like almost any update on a smartphone, is the one-way nature of the process. Once you are in the land of iOS 7, there’s no going back. And given the radical nature of iOS 7, there’s going to be a lot of users wondering what they’ve just done to their Apple device.
They’ll likely start with denial. They didn’t update to iOS 7, it’s just some new icons, this isn’t a radical change to Apple’s operating system that makes every option easier to find, quicker to access, and all with a consistent interface. What they’re seeing is just iOS 6 with a pretty skin. There’ll be a switch to flip it back, they can find their old phone in here somewhere.See more...

How to use GTA V's Cheats

Cheats are a hallowed part of GrandTheft Auto history. If you have fond memories of the ol’ Infinite Ammo or Full Armor cheats, you’ll be happy about these new ones that show up inGTA V .

A handy video from the folks at VideoGamer shows off a handful of codes in action, showing the vehicles, weather shifts and ability changes that happen when you press the right buttons. For those who don’t feel like playing by the rules, IGN’s got a more comprehensive list of cheats. See video

Google Drive update brings convinient shortcuts and complete redesign

Google Drive may be simple and convenient for all of us cloud geeks, but it was already starting to look a bit outdated. A new update has hit the Google Play Store and it comes with a few new design elements andimprovements worth mentioning.

Many of us may ignore the update at first, mistaking it for one of the usual bug-fixing update we get daily.

The very What’s New description even makes it seem like that, simply stating: “Bug fixes and other improvements”. There is much more than that to see, though!

The app’s design has been improved by adopting the Holo Light design cues we have seen in the latest Google apps. With this lighter, cleaner look, Google can bring different adaptations to the apps without making it seem too cluttered.

Google has added 3 options to the bottom of the screen, making it much easier and faster to access certain actions. Think of them as shortcuts. Now one can easily access the Upload, Create and Scan functions. All without tapping extra buttons and menus.

There are other improvements baked into Drive, including editing upgrades and the such. The main design elements are definitely the most important, though. I happen to love the new features and design. Everything looks clean and simple, yet much more functional.

Only problem I found is that some of my devices got the new bar while others didn’t. All my devices were updated to the same version number, yet my Galaxy Note 2 is not showing the bar with the shortcuts. It did get the new design and colors, though. see more..

Modify your Smartphone Bit by Bit with Phoneblocks

What is more important to you in a mobile phone, looks or upgradability? If you picked the latter, then you’ll probably get excited about a new phone concept called Phonebloks. It’s a modular smartphone made up of separate, interchangeable blocks that are easily upgraded or replaced if they break.

You can design your phone with the components you care about or need, leave off those you don’t, and you only have to upgrade bits one at a time. An awesome idea, right? Yeah, but you’re going to need to put up with one ugly phone to get it.

Look-aside, the basics behind Phonebloks are solid. The whole venture is very Maker-inspired and will appeal to Do-It-Yourselfers and hardcore phone geeks. Consumers will be able to buy pre-made phones or assemble their own, blok by blok, using components found in the Blokstore. Here, both large and small hardware makers will get the chance to sell you components ranging from processors and internalstorage to cameras and speakers. It’s akin to an app store, not just because of consumer choice but because anyone will be able to make hardware bloks. The entire platform is open source. see more..

AAPL Tank on Iphone 5C Pricing

Apple stock (NASDAQ: AAPL) went on one of its biggest slides of the year after analysts downgraded the shares, saying the new iPhone 5C is not cheap enough for emerging markets and the company is failing to innovate.

Bank of America-Merrill Lynch downgraded Apple (AAPL) to "neutral" from "buy." Similar actions were taken by analysts for Credit Suisse, Piper Jaffray and UBS.
Apple'sstock fell 5.7 percent, or $28, mid-day on Wednesday to $466.64.
During Tuesday's highly-covered media event, Apple introduced two new phones with features such as a fingerprint sensor and new operating system, iOS 7. The new iPhone 5S comes in various metallic shades while the cheaper iPhone 5C comes in five plastic colors. see more...

AT&T pulls smartphone themed 9/11 tweet after mass outrage

One of America’s corporate giants has discovered the hard way that company messages related to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks are probably better left alone — especially when that message goes out on social media.

U.S.communications company AT&T posted a short message and image on its Twitter feed at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the twelfth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The tweet read “Never Forget;” attached was a picture of New York with the “towers of light” where the destroyed World Trade Center used to stand. Inserted over top of the image was a picture of an arm holding a smartphone with the towers of light highlighted on the view screen.

The response to the tweet was immediate and visceral, with many on Twitter calling the move tacky and tasteless, and many more simply coming up with variations of the f-word to throw at the company.see more..

All About Apple Event

Apple announced a deluge of products at its Cupertino campus this morning. The iPhone- and iOS-centric event naturally focused on the company’s smartphone lineup, from its new flagship iPhone 5S to the mid-range iPhone 5C to the forthcoming iOS 7. But it’s no Apple event without a few surprises tossed in, including free iWork apps and the end of the iPhone 5.
Much like the upgrade between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, the S in iPhone 5S signals an incremental, rather than dramatic, change from the iPhone 5. On the surface, it looks incredibly similar to its predecessor. It has the same shape and size, with a few key visual changes including a ring around the Home button and new metallic colors of gold, silver and a slate grey (see below).
The major upgrades are found inside — specifically a new 64-bit A7processor. Since iOS 7 is completely re-engineered for 64-bit, the iPhone 5S is totally optimized for the coming mobile operating system. It also means the phone’s CPU and GPU are 40x and 50x faster than the original iPhone. In layman’s terms, the A7 delivers twice the performance of the iPhone 5, according to Apple. A new M7 motion co-processor works alongside the A7 chip to continuously measure motion from the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope. It offloads the work from the A7 chip for power efficiency, which new fitness and health apps can build on.
Battery life only got slightly better compared to the iPhone 5. Apple says that you’ll be able to get 10 hours of talk time or LTE/Wi-Fibrowsing, or 250 hours of standby time.
For the iPhone 5S camera, Apple went the HTC route with larger, rather than more, pixels. The new sensor has pixels that are 15 percent larger than the ones on the iPhone 5. And the LED flash got a major upgrade with what Apple is calling “True Tone Flash.” It’s made up of two LEDs, one white and the other a warm amber color. You can adjust the type of flash you need for the photo setting, with more than 1,000 variations. The iOS 7 camera app will take advantage of the new camera with several software upgrades, including a burst mode feature and a slow-motion video capture.see more...

What to expect from IOS 7 ?

iOS7 is the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. The iOS7 update will bring a completely new experience to users of the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with a new look, new features and new Siri options.

Apple announced iOS7 this summer and for the past several months members of the Gotta Be Mobile team used the software on their iPhones and iPads. Apple confirmed a fall iOS 7 release date when they announced the new software and now that the fall iPhone event is confirmed we can start talking about a specific iOS 7 release date.
iOS7 delivers a new look that replaces the real world imagery in many of the stock apps and delivers a new look across the whole user experience with more gestures, new icons and much more. Apple also enhances Do Not Disturb, changes the lock screen and NotificationCenter and adds a new Control Center with fast access to common settings and controls from anywhere on the iPhone or iPad. see more..

Samsung Galaxy Gear

It’s big. It’s gaudy. It’s packed with fancy hardware and comes loaded with software features–some of which you’d probably never use.
No, I’m not talking about Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3. The device I refer to is the Samsung Galaxy Gear, the company’s first attempt at a modern smartwatch
In typical Samsung fashion, it’s a smartwatch, with everything on it.For specs, the Galaxy Gear has a 1.63-inch AMOLED display (320-by-320) resolution, an 800 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internalstorage.
It has a 1.9-megapixel camera and speaker built into the wrist strap, and there’s a microphone on board for making calls over a Bluetooth smartphone connection. As with earlier smart watches like Pebble, the Galaxy Gear aims to be a glanceable notification machine, informing you of incoming calls, texts, messages and alerts.
But the Gear also has some clever integration with Samsung’s smartphones, so when you take the phone out of your pocket, those messages instantly appear on the big screen.see more...

Hands review Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The SamsungGalaxy Note 3, the latest model in the Galaxy Note line of phones, is more of an evolutionary upgrade than a revolutionary one. The physical changes aren't noticeable at first, but some make a real difference. At the same time, there are a few new features that will probably appeal to power users – the Note's key audience.

Held in hand, the Note 3 feels very much like the
NoteII. That's because Samsung laboured to keep the width of the phone the same even while bumping up the screen size to 5.7 inches. Samsung clearly doesn't want to get into the territory marked by the 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega – nor should it. The Note 3 feels big, but not ridiculously so (though those with smaller hands may have a different experience). See more..

Microsoft to buy Nokia mobile phone unit

Microsoft has agreed a deal to buy Nokia's mobile phone business for 5.4bn euros ($7.2bn; £4.6bn).

Nokia will also license its patents and mapping services to Microsoft. Nokia shares jumped 35% on the news, whereas Microsoft's fell more than 5%.
The purchase is set to be completed in early 2014, when about 32,000 Nokia employees will transfer to Microsoft.
Nokia has fallen behind rivals Samsung and Apple, while critics say Microsoft has been slow into the mobile market.
Describing the deal as a "big, bold step forward", Microsoft chiefexecutive Steve Ballmer told the BBC that his company was in the process of transforming itself from one that "was known for software and PCs, to a company that focuses on devices and services". see more..
