Jane Birkin's daughter Kate Barry dies

British-born photographer Kate Barry, daughter of the actor and singer Jane Birkin, has died after falling from the window of her fourth-floor Paris flat.
Her body was found around 6.30pm on Wednesday on the pavement outside her home in the 16th arrondissement.
Barry, 46, was Birkin's eldest daughter and was born in London. Her father was the British composer John Barry, best known for his film music including the James Bond theme and Out of Africa. He died in 2011.
Her parents separated shortly after she was born in 1967, and Birkin moved to France where she brought up her daughter with the French singer Serge Gainsbourg, and later the film director Jacques Doillon.
Barry carved out a name for herself as a fashion photographer, but in France remained less famous than her actor half-sisters, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon. Barry once said she preferred to remain behind the scenes.
"At first, I was better known because of my family: my mother, my stepfather, my father, my sisters … now I hope I'm known a bit more for my own work," Barry said.
She was thought to have been alone in the flat, where antidepressants were reportedly found by police, who have launched an inquiry into her death. The door to her flat was locked from the inside.

Ottawa's Shopify raises $100 M in venture capital

Ottawa startup Shopify, which makes software used by thousands of businesses to sell their products online, has raised $100 million to expand its software for retailers to use in their physical stores.
The large amount of venture capital is being put forward by five investors, led by the investment arm of OMERS, the pension fund for Ontario municipal employees.

Three Ottawa entrepreneurs launched Shopify in 2006 as an e-commerce software platform that businesses could use without having to develop their own websites.

With the new investment, Shopify plans to expand an iPad app it has developed that allows businesses to swipe credit cards and email receipts in-store, along with track sales.

At Shopify's office in Ottawa's ByWard Market, some employees sit in beanbag chairs working on laptop computers, while others take a break to play video machines or pinball. But the loft-like space is getting cramped, and Shopify plans to move in the coming months. The company has already doubled its staff this year, and with the $100 million dollars in venture capital, it sees hiring nearly another 200 people, mostly in Ottawa but also in Montreal and Toronto.

Alex Steen , Blues face strunggling Maple Leafs

The high-scoring Alexander Steen was once a first-round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who could have used his help in recent games.
The St. Louis Blues winger will instead try for another successful performance against the Maple Leafs on Thursday (8 p.m. ET.)

Toronto (16-13-3) has posted one of the lowest goal-scoring averages in the league (2.09) during its 3-6-2 stretch and has a combined three goals in back-to-back losses. The Leafs outshot visiting Los Angeles 39-23 on Wednesday, but Cody Franson had the only goal in a 3-1 loss.

Toronto gave up two goals in the final 11 minutes and has been outscored 15-3 in the final periods of its last 11 games.

"They're down because we had so many opportunities, so many offensive chances," coach Randy Carlyle said. "If we continue to apply that type of work ethic, we'll win our share of games, but it's like pushing a snowball. Every time you lose, it gets bigger."

The Blues (20-6-3), meanwhile, have won two of three after Kevin Shattenkirk scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:02 remaining in Tuesday's 2-1 victory in Winnipeg.

"We outfought for three pucks just to get that opportunity, which is what happened for the whole third period, which was really impressive," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "As the game wore on, our confidence

Arrow Post Mortem

So much came to pass in these last two episodes Arrow that we’ll have plenty to chew on until the series returns on January 15.
After an early screening of Arrow Season 2 Episode 9, the producers – Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns – along with star Grant Gustin fielded questions about The Flash, Slade being alive, Roy’s journey, the debut of the Arrow’s mask and more.
Scroll down for some serious scoop and consider yourself spoiler warned...
Olicity? While there is a definite fan base wanting Oliver and Felicity to hook up, their romance – if it ever happens – is going to be as complicated as anything else on Arrow. “Oliver isn't quite sure what he feels,” Kreisberg said. “He knows he feels something for her but can't quite define it. And I think he's sort of surprised in this episode when Dig points out to him that what you're feeling right now might actually be termed jealousy.’”

Felicity’s take on their attraction is a little different. “I think she doesn't want to like Oliver in a way. You know, she finds him unattainable. And in a way, he is unattainable. Especially after you saw after episode six when he sort of said that it's probably better that I'm not with someone I care about.”
The producer added that we’ll see in the first episode back in 2014 just what kind of affect Barry’s presence has had on the Ollie/Felicity relationship.
The Perfect Flash.’ “He's earnest,” explained Johns. “Grant, as an actor, has brought more to Barry Allen than I think we've seen before especially seeing him in the days of when he's taking his first steps. But he's got that heart, he's humor, he's got compassion. Barry was always that nice guy. He's the guy that stops and makes sure everyone's all right and then keeps going. And Grant embodies that. He's the perfect Flash.”
Arrow’s Episode 20: What was once going to be the backdoor pilot of The Flash, episode 20, will now be a regular episode of Arrow. “In some ways, having that be the backdoor pilot we actually made things a little bit harder,” said Kreisberg, “because we were going to have to take a right turn from where we were in our ongoing story [in Arrow] to incorporate that and in some ways this has freed us to take The Flash and just do The Flash separately and stay on a straight line.”
That said, we’ll still hear references to Barry even if he’s not seen, Berlanti added. “You hear about what happened to him in the way that you’re hearing now about S.T.A.R. Labs and things like that on the periphery and certainly in terms of Felicity since she has a connection with him.”
Arrow & The Flash: Don’t expect The Flash series (God willing) be a carbon copy of Arrow. “We’ll want to keep Arrow as distinctive as possible and Flash and as distinctive as possible,” said Johns. “Part of the fun will be seeing how those two things play out in both shows hopefully if we get that opportunity but there are story reasons that Flash feels different and that he’s taking on different things.”

3 New Features Included In Cloud Storage App

Google updated its cloud storage and document synchronization app, Google Drive on Monday. The new features changed the way that users can sort documents, and offers new functionality for users of Google Docs.
In an update that is rolling across mobile devices, the Google Drive app now allows for easier sorting of files -- including the options “last sorted by me” and “last edited by me.” Google Drive also now allows users the ability to “Find and Replace” strings of text located within documents.
Google notes that it also included some “under the hood and usability improvements.” This means that the search giant likely tweaked the app’s software to allow Google Drive to run faster or more efficiently.

Tila Tequila Nazi uniform, calls Hitler a 'sweet kid' in shocking Facebook rant

The former MTV star also claimed that 'Fast & Furious' star Paul Walker’s recent fatal car crash was a 'ritualistic murder' and that other unidentified forces murdered her 'wife' Casey Johnson.
Tila Tequila has created a Fuhrer furor.
The shock-savoring former MTV star posted – and later deleted – a Facebook photo of herself wearing a swastika arm band, Nazi uniform hat and silver stripper getup while standing in front of Aushcwitz.

In a related post Monday evening, the ex-MySpace queen described Hitler as a “special and sweet kid” who was rejected by art schools and later “bullied.”

She drew comparisons to her own life, saying she felt “mocked” and “rejected” when she tried to convert to Judaism in recent years.
In yet another post Monday, Tequila, 32, urged her readers to put aside their hatred.

I never said I hated anyone, but just because I feel sympathy, compassion, and forgiveness for others such as Hitler means I am now a monster? All for trying to open your eyes to the truth that Hitler was NOT as bad as he was painted out to be?” she asked.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2013

The 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show took place in November, but all the sexy action does not air until Tuesday night on CBS.

Last month, the International Business Times along with other members of the press were invited to the Lexington Armory in Manhattan to watch the models get ready for the taping of the show. After wowing us with their charming personalities, 40 models – including the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo and more – stormed the catwalk for one of the sexiest shows in the brand’s history, with performances by Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Neon Jungle, and A Great Big World.

Since 1995, L Brands Inc.-owned lingerie giant holds an annual fashion show. The show was first televised in 2001, broadcasted nationally featuring notable musicians and the most famous Angels, including Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Liu Wen and Gisele Bundchen. Today, the show garners viewers from over 185 countries around the world.
The "Fantasy Bra," a custom-designed bejeweled brassiere, is another tradition since the first was created in 1996 and worn by Claudia Schiffer. It emerged for the first time on the runway during the annual show in 2001, when Heidi Klum wore the “Heavenly Star Bra.”
This year, the bra cost $10 million and was worn by 23-year-old South African beauty Candice Swanepoel. Designed by jeweler Mouawad, the bra is adorned with more than 4,200 gems from around the world including rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires and hand-set in 18-carat gold with a 52-carat ruby in the center.
