Jamaal Charles leaves

Pro Bowl running back JamaalCharles left midway through the Kansas City Chiefs' practice Monday with what coach Andy Reid called a strained foot. X-rays were negative.
Though a source familiar with the injury told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Charles is "fine," another source told ESPN's Ed Werder that Charles will be re-evaluated Tuesday morning to determine when he'll be able to return to practice.
Charles attended Tuesday's practice but joined the rest of the injured Chiefs away from the practice field. He wasn't wearing a boot and didn't appear to be limping.
Charles was participating in an 11-on-11 portion of practice pitting the No. 1 offense against the top defense Monday when he walked off the field and spent a moment speaking with trainers. He climbed into a cart and was driven up a long hillside to the locker room.
"We'll just see how he does. Precautionary measures," Reid said. "We'll see how he does here in the next little bit -- see where he's at as far as pain or swelling. We'll see how he does."
Reid wouldn't say for sure whether Charles will play Friday night against San Francisco.See more..

Elon Musk unveils San Francisco-LA

US-based entrepreneur Elon Musk has unveiled his proposed near-supersonic "Hyperloop" transport concept to link Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The SpaceX, Tesla and Paypal founder envisions using magnets and fans to shoot capsules floating on a cushion of air through a long tube.
If the Hyperloop is ever built, a trip on it between the two California cities would last about 30 minutes, he said.
But Mr Musk says he is currently too busy to develop the project himself.
In a paper outlining the Hyperloop proposal, Mr Musk suggested the solar-powered system would be a faster, safer, less costly, and more efficient mode of transport between Los Angeles and San Francisco than the high-speed train currently under development.

Song released to US radio and iTunes store after Little Monsters campaign to report illicit streams and downloads to Universal Music

Lady Gaga's new single Applause may have leaked ahead of its official release on 19 August, but her famously-fervent fanbase is leading the battle to keep the song under wraps.

A campaign by fans from Gaga's Little Monsters website has encouraged the community to report any site spotted distributing or linking to leaked snippets of the single to her label, Universal Music.

Nearly 2,500 fans have retweeted a link to Universal's take down page, with one fan boasting of having notified the label about 500 infringing links in a single evening. Seemore..

Whitey Bulger Update

The "day of reckoning" for mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger was a "long time in coming," a U.S. attorney said outside a Boston courthouse Monday.

Bulger, who prosecutors said led one of Boston's most notorious crime gangs, was found guilty Monday in a string of 11 killings in the 1970s and 1980s following a racketeering trial that spanned more than seven weeks. He was also found guilty of extortion, money laundering, narcotics distribution conspiracy, and illegal firearms charges.
He had been charged in 19 killings in a broad racketeering indictment. The jury deliberations spanned 32 and a half hours before the verdict was read in court Monday.

"Today is a day many in this city thought would never come," said U.S.Attorney Carmen Ortiz. "James J. 'Whitey' Bulger now stands convicted for his role in the murderous Winter Hill Gang."
Ortiz said she hoped Bulger's conviction would mark "the end of an era that was very ugly in Boston's history."
Bulger fled Boston in 1994 after being tipped off by a retired FBI agent about his indictment and was one of the FBI's most-wanted fugitives until he was captured with his longtime girlfriend in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.

New Iphone

Apple will unveil the latest version of its iPhone on September 10, according to a new report.

The news comes from All Things D, the Wall Street Journal-affiliated tech blog that has a solid track record for reporting inside Apple information.

Apple is believed to be working on a smart watch and a TV, but neither of those products are expected to be ready for rollout at next month's event. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Likely to be called either the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S, the phone's release date would fit the schedule Apple has established since the first iPhone was released in 2007.

The company has released a new iPhone model every year, and the release dates have all been in the summer or fall. The iPhone 5 came out in September 2012, the iPhone 4S in October 2011, and the three versions before that in the summer months.

The release date is the most recent, and probably one of the most accurate, rumors that precede this Apple release.

The upcoming Apple event will come at a unique time for the tech giant, which has dominated the smartphone and tablet markets for almost as long as they have existed. Android-based phones like Samsung's Galaxy S4 have put a dent in iPhone sales, while some critics have said the latest updates to the iPhone and iPad lack significant innovation.

Tips from Breaking Bad's

That’s the kind of analogy that surfaces in every discussion about the show runner of Breaking Bad, which premieres its final eight-episode run tonight. And that happy talk sells Gilligan—and the show he created–short.

Sure, there’s more than a grain of truth to this stereotype. Compared to television’s other often-prickly auteurs—David Chase of the Sopranos, David Simon of The Wire, and Matt Weiner of Mad Men—Gilligan is easy going. His go-to adjective in describing someone he’s fond of is “sweet.”
Most days, it’s just easier to be nice to people,” Gilligan admits, “and it bears more fruit, even if I’m not feeling like it.”
Nice might get you a meeting, but it doesn’t create a show that must be included in any serious discussion about the best shows in television history. How exactly did Gilligan manage to  take Walter White from Mr. Chips to Scarface?  Here’s a look at the tactics and strategies that Gilligan used to morph an improbably dark idea into the greatness that is Breaking Bad.
(This is spoiler-free about the current season until the freshly appended closing paragraphs which recap episode 509.)

Ignore Your Critics:  “That is the single worst idea for a television series I’ve ever heard in my life.” That’s the assessment of Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony Entertainment, when two of his production executives explained the concept for Breaking Bad. Without the benefit of hindsight, that reaction isn’t at all surprising. Cancer. Meth. Mr. Chips. Scarface. Breaking Bad makes The Sopranos seem like Everybody LovesRaymond. And in addition, unbeknownst to Gilligan, another show with a more palatable spin on the theme—Weeds, featuring Mary Louise Parker as a pot-dealing suburban mom—was already in production while he was trying to get Breaking Bad off the ground.
But ultimately none of that mattered. Lacking a better idea, Gilligan soldiered on and landed a production deal with Sony—Lynton’s comment notwithstanding—and a home at AMC which was attempting to establish itself as a force in original programming and thus open to taking a chance on a radical show.
Cast Against Type:  How do you cast a character like Walter White? You find an actor who does dark– maybe Kevin Spacey or John Malkovich, or the best clone you can afford. What did Gilligan do? He gave the part of Walter White to a guy best known as as a beleaguered dad on a modestly successful sitcom.
But Gilligan remembered Bryan Cranston not only from Malcolm in the Middle but from an X-Files episode in which he pulled off the feat of making a racist seem empathetic. This gutsy decision made TV history. See more..

Jason Dufner Wins PGA Championship

Looking unruffled throughout an unhurried walk in Sunday's final round of the 95th PGA Championship, Jason Dufner, who earlier this year sparked a movement that became known as Dufnering, now is in possession of the Wanamaker Trophy.

Unperturbed by charges made by others and untroubled by the exigent East Course at Oak Hill Country Club, Dufner won the final major of the season with a lethal combination of pars and tap-in birdies.
Trailing by one at the start of the day, Dufner took the lead for good on No. 8 and shot 2-under-par 68 to finish at 10 under par to win by two over Jim Furyk.
After holing his final putt, Dufner celebrated the third win of his career with a muted double-fist pump to the sky, politely took his hat off to shake Furyk's hand, and then gently patted his wife, Amanda, on the rear end before hugging her. A few minutes later he hoisted the heavy silver Wanamaker Trophy to the sky and gave it a few kisses.
