Autopsy: 'Buckwild' star Gandee's death accidental

Buckwild star Shain Gandee cause of death have been determined to be accidental and the result of carbon monoxide poisoning, the kanawha country sheriff's Office announced tuesday afternoon.

Last Monday, the three men were found dead inside Shain Gandee'd 1984 Ford Bronco Office. The SUV's tailpipe was submerged in mud when the trio got stuck while off-roading, which likely led to the carbon monoxide poisoning.

No other details from the autopsy were released and the cause of death was described as a 'partial' finding. More details may released in coming days.

The initial police report on the incident said the vehicle and bodies were found by one of Shain's friends who had been searching for him since he vanished over the weekend.

Shain and his uncle were last seen at Larry's Bar in nearby Sissonville around 3 a.m. Sunday. They told acquaintances they were going four-wheeling, also known as "mudding," in Shain's Bronco.

"The vehicle sat unevenly, but upright, and was partially submerged in deep mud. Mud was covering the lower part of the passenger side door of the vehicle, but the driver's side of the vehicle was above the mud," according to the sheriff's report. "The muffler of the vehicle was completely submerged in mud. The Bronco was found next to a ridgetop trail. That section of the trail itself was passable for four-wheel drive vehicles. However, the Bronco was in a mud pit next to the trail. That area is accessed by following the wooded trails for approximately one mile from Shain Gandee'sresidence, near Thaxton Hollow in Sissonville."
Shain, the report said, was seated in the Bronco's driver's seat. The vehicle was removed from the mud pit by a bulldozer, and the bodies were taken to the medical examiner's office.
On Sunday morning, after the Bronco had been found, deputies and members of the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department used all-terrain vehicles to get to the vehicle, which belonged to the Gandee family.
Filming of Season 2 of Buckwild has been suspended. There is no word yet on when it might resume or be canceled. The MTV reality show follows the lives of nine high-spirited young West Virginians and has been criticized by some for perpetuating "hillbilly" stereotypes.
