Winter X Gamers Snowmobiler Caleb Moore dies last week's crash in Colorado

The innovative freestyle snowmobile rider, who was hurt in a crash at the Winter X Games in Colorado, died Thursday morning. He was 25.

Moore had been undergoing care at a hospital in Grand Junction since the Jan. 24 crash. Family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson confirmed his death, the first in the 18-year history of the X Games.

"He lived his life to the fullest. He was an inspiration," Lawson said.

A former all-terrain vehicle racer, Moore switched over to snowmobiles as a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He won four Winter X Games medals, including a bronze last season when his younger brother, Colten, captured gold.

Caleb Moore was attempting a backflip in the freestyle event in Aspen last week when the skis on his 450-pound snowmobile caught the lip of the landing area, sending him flying over the handlebars. Moore landed face first into the snow with his snowmobile rolling over him.

Moore stayed down for quite some time, before walking off with help and going to a hospital to be treated for a concussion. Moore developed bleeding around his heart and was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction for surgery. The family later said that Moore, of Krum, Texas, also had a complication involving his brain.

ColtenMoore was injured in a separate crash that same night. He suffered a separated pelvis in the spill.

The family said in a statement they were grateful for all the prayers and support they have received from people around the world.

XGames officials expressed their condolences and said Moore, a four-time X Games medallist , would be remembered "for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends."

Frogs burn ample fuel while freezing solid

The Canadian researchers have found out, frogs that cope with winter weather by freezing into a solid may be hit by climate change.

Wood frogs has the amazing ability to freeze their bodies into hard when the temperature drops below 0 C and they thaw out and hop away when it warms up again.

As a matter of fact freezing and thawing burns a surprisingly large amount of energy. The researchers measured the frogs' energy consumption in the lab during freezing and thawing.
While the cold-blooded animals slow down their metabolism consistently as temperatures drop, wood frogs suddenly increase their energy consumption when temperatures drop to about above zero. The metabolism increased suddenly again when they completely thawed out after being frozen before they start to breathe again.

By putting temperature sensors in the ground in an Ottawa-area forest during winter, the researchers discovered that the frogs freeze and thaw 15 to 25 times per winter, and calculated that the process consumes a large portion of the energy that a frog burns over the winter.

The problem is that the energy molecule used to fuel the freezing and thawing — glycogen — is the same one used by the frog to manufacture the glucose antifreeze that protects its cells from frostbite while the spaces between them are filled with ice. If the glycogen is depleted, the frog won't have enough antifreeze to survive the next freeze-thaw cycle.

Sinclair said that means the frog may be vulnerable to changes in snow cover and snowfall that are expected as the climate changes.

Sloane Stephens Rising Star in Tennis world

Stephens has been rising star in the tennis world for more than a year. She arrives this week at a career-high No. 17 in the WTA ranking. She will appear this week on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.

Creamy Rice pudding

Here the simple recipe of rice pudding that you can do by yourself

Ingredients:



¾ cup uncooked rice
2 cups milk , divided
1/3 cup white sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup golden raisins
1 tablespoon butter
½ teaspoon vanilla extract



Directions:



Boil 1 ½ cup of water in a sauce pan; add the rice and stir. After stirring reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.

Get another sauce pan combine 1 ½ cup cooked rice , 1 ½ milk , sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat until think and creamy then add the ½ cup milk , beaten egg and raisins and cook for 2 minutes while stirring constantly.

Remove from the heat, add the butter and vanilla.

Serves.(good for 4 person)

Student support Idle No More movements

Last January 26 2013 in Victoria, BC. , Canadian Federation of Students will join today's demonstrations at the legislature to support the Idle No More Movement which calls on the honour Aboriginal treaty rights including the right to self-govern.

"The Canadian Federation of Students-BC recognizes the right to self-determination of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada," said Katie Marocchi, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students-BC (CFS-BC). "Legislation such as Bill C-45 undermines Aboriginal and treaty rights and should be condemned."

The Canadian Federation of Students-BC passed a resolution of support for the Idle No More movement and endorse the petition opposing Bill C-45. The bill makes changes to land provisions in the Indian Act and weakens protections for natural resources in Canada including fresh water. 

And they also passed several resolutions outlining calls for action in partnership with local Aboriginal groups to oppose the legislated attacks on Aboriginal and treaty rights.

Samsung plans to invest $1.7 billion in expanding

The South Korean electronics giant Samsung plans to invest $1.7 billion in expanding and fitting out its operations in Kunsha, a fast growing manufacturing hub west of Shanghai, the Xinhua news agency said.

The largest maker of handset , memory chips and televisions attempts its diversify its clients and exert greater control over it's sprawling manufacturing network, which includes 250 supplier factories in China.

The Kunshan investment will be used to build workshop , purchase equipment and set up research institute operated by Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. , to support a chip carrier related project.

Samsung's growing presence in China has earned it the attention of labor activists more accustomed to scrutinizing rival electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn.

Avocado are rich in omega-3 fatty acids-are anti inflammatory (inflammation is one of the biggest causes of aging) and are a potent moisturizer. Put in a clean bowl a half of a ripe avocado add a little honey and a teaspoon of yogurt or milk. Wash your face with warm water to get rid of excess make up or dirt. Apply the mask to the skin on your face using your finger tips or a clean foundation brush and leave on for at least 60 minutes. Gently wash your face using warm water and a washcloth to clean off and pat dry.

One haunted house sold for the grand total of one euro

At Rhone-Alpes, France someone have just bought a haunted house.
A user who goes by the handle Maud69620 recently auctioned off the 110 square meter property on France’s version of eBay, pictures included, only serious buyers need apply.
Located in a town called Arbresle, the home was supposedly the site of a gruesome double murder in the 1950s and has since been plagued by all sorts of supernatural phenomena – everything from phantom faces at the window and phantom shadows on the floor to strange moving objects and weird, disembodied voices.

The listing claims the home’s former owners, a couple, were killed by “ruthless” thieves searching for some kind of “hidden treasure” buried inside.

According to this legend, the listing continues, their bodies were recovered in a nearby field, but their restless spirits have haunted the house ever since.

Naturally, the ad has generated its fair share of skepticism and its authenticity has yet to be proved, but that hasn’t stopped mainstream media from picking it up and running with it, because, well, who doesn’t love a good haunted house story?

Maud is sticking to her story, however, and specifically asked that anyone who believed her listing to be a fake refrain from contacting her, as the home is intended only for “those who believe in the spirit world.”

Path of Exile hosted almost 70,000 gamers over weekend

The Grinding Gear's free-to-play ARPG Path of exile entered open beta last week. Grinding Gear Lead Designer Chris Wilson stated the deluge crashed Exile's account system and servers over the weekend but the team quickly brought everything back online today with stability and bug fixes.


“We’re getting absolutely crushed under the number of players trying out Path of Exile, and this has manifested as a server crash that has been occurring hourly today,” Wilson wrote previously. “For those interested, player concurrency hit 69,850 players before it was high enough to take down the realm.”

GrindingGear also fixed a few pesky login bugs, including a rare and strange issue where players somehow could log into accounts owned by other players as the servers shuddered beneath the load. To keep character info stable, the studio simply switched off Exile’s servers until it whipped up a fix.

Canada tells Hungary's Roma: Do not seek asylum here

The Government of Canada had an international reputation of welcoming refugees around the world except the Hungary's Roma community. The Government is spending approximately $13,000 on an information campaign, including billboards, notice in bus shelters, newspapers, and on radio spots in the Hungarian city of Miskolc, to dissuade would-be Roma asylum seekers from coming to Canada.

This campaign started last January 15 and according to a spokeperson for Citizenship and Immigration Canada is to last one month.

The campaign appears to be part of the larger overhaul of the Canadian immigration system implemented by Prime Minister Stephen Harper'sgovernment in recent months.

Twitter ordered to identify bigoted tweeters in France

Last Thursday, French court ordered Twitter Inc to help identify the authors of bigoted post or face fines of 1,000 euros per day,as the social network firm comes under renewed pressure to combat racist and extremist messages.

It is requested by a Jewish student union and right groups that concerned bigoted material but could open the floodgates to legal pursuit of Twitter users who post a wide range of messages deemed illegal or offensive.

"This is an excellent decision, which we hope will bring an end to the feeling of impunity that fuels the worst excesses," said Stephane Lilti, lawyer for the groups who sought the ruling.

The anti-Semitic message started appearing last October, and have since been deleted.
The Paris court gave privately-held Twitter, whose general policy is that it does not control content posted on its network, 15 days to hand over data identifying people who have published messages judged anti-Semitic.

The court also ordered Twitter to set up a system in France that helps people draw attention to illegal content. Under French law, people found guilty of inciting racial hatred can be jailed for a year and fined.

Twitter's lawyer in France, Alexandra Neri, declined to comment.

Stolen treasure hoard discovered in N.S. Home

They have recovered hundreds of allegedly stolen items from a Fall River home that included rare first editions of books , one-of-a-kind documents and arts taken from multiple collections.

The estimated valued of more than $1 Million of artifacts are found at John Mark Tillman Fall River home by the police. They found more than 800 allegedly stolen artifacts.

The police pulled Tillman last summer for breaching the conditions of his house arrest. During that stop they found a few unusual items in his vehicle, including a letter written in 1758 by British military leader Gen. James Wolfe.

Wolfe was one of the British leaders who led an attack on the French during the Siege of Louisbourg in the 18th century, effectively ending the French colonial era in Atlantic Canada.

After months of investigating the letter, police finally tracked it to Dalhousie University. Once they confirmed it was a stolen antiquity, police obtained a search warrant for Tillman's house and arrested him following the search.

Police began their search early Friday morning and continued their search on Tuesday, cataloging hundreds of items — anything that looked to be an antique or rare object.

One item of note seized appears to be a rare edition of Charles Darwin's pivotal scientific work, On the Origin of Species.

Police said they have tracked the owners of many artifacts already, and have confirmed theft or fraud.

RIM launched software for New Blackberry

RIM(ResearchIn Motion) has launched software to get business ready for its New BlackBerry handset while continuing its new emphasis on enabling workplaces to support Apple and Android devices.

RIM made updated software for securely managing fleets of smartphones and tables on Wednesday. This software can be downloaded for a 60-day free trial onto BlackBerry , IOS and Android.

Once that the 60-day trial period is over. RIM will charge an one-time fee of $99 per device to use its service, however it is allowing existing BlackBerry users who upgrade to the new BlackBerry 10 handsets to trade in the lincences of their old devices at no charge.

Giovanna Plowman sucks her own tampon

GiovannaPlowman uploaded of herself eating what appears to be a used tampon, but she couldn't stop the internet.

She uploaded a graphic video onto her now deleted Facebook page of what appeared to be her sucking on her own used tampon. She is now known as “Tampon Girl”. She's been accused by Twitter followers of creating the shock video as way to get her 15 minutes of fame.

There is argument over whether it's real or not. The site Know Your Meme points out that commenters seem to disagree whether it's actually bloody tampon she's using or just something dipped in tomato sauce or another red liquid.

Some think that she did that video to get on the Tosh O show, the International Digital Times pointed out a post on Facebook supposedly made by Plowman. She posted “ ”OMG! I just found I’m going to be on Tosh.0!!! One of Daniel Tosh’s agents got a hold of me and said they would love to have me and my video on their show! This is amazing. I never though it would get this big, and of course I’ll be going.”

UK wants schools to use security smoke system to defend against shooting

A UK company believes that their smokescreen technology may be a way to keep students and teachers safe in the event of an assailant or thief entering their classroom.

The concept of Smokescreen has been producing security systems for bank or other businesses since 1970's. Their Security Smoke system is capable of filling the room with a dense and non-toxic fog.

They propose putting Security Smoke unit in each classroom and the control for each in the hands of the classroom's teacher. UK company said with a proper training and safety drills with the technology the teacher and student would remain safe when a would-be assailant is confronted by a rooms filled with smoke, rather than a group of readily-visible targets.

Without knowing whether the smoke was from a fire or if it was toxic, the first instinct of the attacker(s) would be to leave, or at the very least they might remain in the corridors of the school, where police could deal with them more easily.

Nazem Kadri is set to have a breakout season in 2013

NazemKadri is certainly one of the biggest lightning rods of Toronto Maple Leafs.

The fact that Kadri returned to training camp for the AHL's TorontoMarlies out of shape, despite spending a summer with a fitness guru, did nothing but fan the flames.

After being benched by Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins in November , Kadri has been unstoppable everywhere he's been.

After being benshed at the AHL level , He went on to register 23 points in just 18 games. Maple Leafs notice of his reawakening and invited him to training camp.

Kadri wouldn't disappoint during the shortened camp, notching a hat trick in one scrimmage and watching his stock rise overall.
