No. 1 Tiger Woods, playing with his 19th different partner in a
professional match-play team event for the USA, looked to be having
fun from the practice range through the end of his round in
Thursday's first session of the 10th Presidents Cup at MuirfieldVillage Golf Club. And there was plenty to celebrate as Woods and
Matt Kuchar defeated Angel Cabrera and Marc Leishman, 5 and 4, to put
the first point on the board for the USA.
The
Americans, 7-1-1 in the matches and winners of the last four by an
average of 4 points, needs 17 points to retain the Cup. The
Internationals rallied to get within a point after the first day
3½-2½.
The
win was Woods' record 21st in the Presidents Cup.
Woods
and Matt Kuchar celebrated some of their eight birdies by mimicking
the Fresh Prince of Bel Air handshake that Will Smith and DJ JazzyJeff made famous in the 1990's sitcom. Woods and Kuchar would tilt
their heads to the side and do a mini high-five and then snap their
fingers to their sides. see more...
