Nasty weather wallops much of U.S. Just before Thanksgiving

Wicked wintry weather that pummeled the West Coast is now barreling across the country, threatening to wreck millions of holiday travel plans just before Thanksgiving.

Scores of car crashes and 12 fatalities are blamed on the storm.

Nearly 200 flights out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport were canceled Monday, in addition to the nearly 300 canceled Sunday.

Parts of Lubbock, known for its warmth and flatness, turned into a snowboarding park as several inches of snow covered the western Texas city.

Sleet and freezing rain will continue blanketing parts of the Southern Plains and Southern Rockies on Monday.

And after the storm deluges parts of the South with rain Monday evening, it'll start zeroing in on the Northeast, the National Weather Service said. And that could spell more travel nightmares.

Walmart Strikes Spread to Miami ahead of Black Friday Protect

Today, workers at a Walmart store in Miami went on strike. They held a 7 a.m. protest this morning and will follow up with a 4 p.m. protest this afternoon. The action is part of the steady buildup toward Black Friday actions set for the day after Thanksgiving.

Walmart workers with the non-union worker organization OUR Walmart have been calling for better wages and an end to retaliation for those who speak out.

This year’s Black Friday will be the second Thanksgiving shopping holiday that OUR Walmart plans to impact with its strikes and protests. Organizers announced last week that the retail giant can expect protests at 1,500 store locations this year.

In the last three weeks workers at Los Angeles, Sacramento, Seattle, Dayton, Cincinnati, Dallas, Chicago and Pittsburgh Walmart stores have gone on strike. In Florida, Miami’s striking workers were joined for a 7a.m. protest this morning by workers from Walmart’s Tampa store who went on strike this weekend.
Jaime Martinez, a Tampa Walmart store employee who works night shifts on maintenance, was one of them. “We went to Miami to let people know how the Walmart associates are being treated,” Martinez told Colorlines. “A lot of them are being treated unfairly.”
Martinez said he went on strike because he was sick of the treatment he received after almost 16 years at his job. He recalled an incident from earlier this year in September when he had to be admitted to the hospital for a ruptured appendix.
“I called Walmart, and let them know that I’m not going to be able to return to work right away.” When he did make it back, he found out that while he was hospitalized he’d been written up for being absent at work. Enough writeups and Martinez could lose his job. “That was a slap in my face,” Martinez said.
Martinez said about seven workers from the Tampa Walmart where he works went on strike, and estimated that some 50 people took part in this morning’s protest.

Seth Rogen and James Franco recreate Kanye Wast's 'Bound 2' with 'Bound 3' parody

No doubt about it, Seth Rogen and James Franco have a great sense of humor. The two actors decided to recreate Kanye West's music video for "Bound 2," which features his reality star girlfriend Kim Kardashian riding on motorcycle with him-- topless.
West's video got plenty of attention from fans and critics alike when it was posted on YouTube last week.
Franco and Rogen's version, titled "Bound 3," was made while the two were on set for their film "The Interview."

You Win or You Die: The Ruthless Beauty of Boardwalk Empired's finale

The natural comparison for Boardwalk Empire is to other mob- and crime-based dramas like The Sopranos, but watching the season 4 finale, I realized that it actually has a lot in common with Game of Thrones.
There’s the sprawling story, of course. (The show could just as well open with a map showing little clockwork towers of booze and guns rising from Chicago, New York, Florida, and Atlantic City.)

There’s the wide range of characters, which the show is unafraid to keep separated by distance and story; Al Capone and Van Alden are off in their own Illinois world, connected to but distanced from the rest of the events, like Jorah and the Khaleesi across the Narrow Sea.

And although Boardwalk Empire organizes its individual seasons around discrete arcs, it also seems to be biding its time and playing a long, long long narrative game about a war for power among families.

And then, as “Farewell Daddy Blues” made achingly clear: it kills people you’d think were not supposed to die.

Family Guy's Brian Griffin killed off

Family Guy fans reacted in shock, dismay and anger Sunday night after Brian, the Griffins' family dog and a fan-favourite regular character, was killed off and replaced with a new pet in short order.

In the episode titled "Life of Brian," the talking dog voiced by show creator Seth MacFarlane is hit by a speeding car while crossing the road. A lengthy hospital scene shows Brian pass away surrounded by the rest of the Griffin family.

Brian has been a series staple since the show debuted in 1999. An articulate talking dog frequently at odds with his family, fans perhaps knew him best as the travelling companion of the megalomaniacal baby Stewie Griffin on numerous episodes.

Fans reacted with shock and disbelief at Brian's death. FOX's officialFamily Guy Twitter account posted a picture of Brian after the episode aired. The hashtags #familyguy and #RIPBrian later reached the top of the social media network's trending lists.
True to Family Guy's breakneck pacing, it introduced Vinnie, a new dog voiced by The Sopranos' Tony Sirico, in the same episode.

Family Guy executive producer Steve Callaghan told E! Online that the idea to kill off a main character "caught fire" quickly once it was pitched, and Brian seemed the least painful choice.
"It seemed more in the realm of reality that a dog would get hit by a car, than if one of the kids died," said Callaghan. "As much as we love Brian, and as much as everyone loves their pets, we felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet."

'The Mentalist': Serial Killer Red John is Finally Revealed

After more than five seasons, we finally met the man who murdered Patrict Jane's wife and child on 'The Mentalist' and to say that it was a shock would be an understatement.
The Mentalist and its lead Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) have been searching for the elusive serial killer Red John for the better part of five years, and during the series' explosive Nov. 24 episode. Patrick finally identified the man who murdered his family, then promptly made good on his promise to kill him. Did the big reveal live up to its expectations?

Fried Turkey from Bojangles

For many of us who’ve spent time living below the Mason-Dixon line, the chicken-and-biscuit chain Bojangles’ symbolizes a lot of what’s great and also awful about the South. The stores’ ubiquity, especially in North and South Carolina, demonstrate how easy it’s been to transform the delicious cuisine of a region that’s long been fiercely proud of its food into bastardized, processed, unhealthy fast-food simulacra. It’s partly because of places like Bojangles’ that the South struggles with obesity so.
On the other hand, Bojangles’ is really freaking delicious. Sure, it’s not your grandma’s chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea—but what if grandma’s passed? Or what if you grew up in, say, Wisconsin, and never even had a Southern grandma? So when I heard that Bojangles’ is selling pre-fried Thanksgiving turkeys at many of their locations across the southeast, I was on it like the sickly film Bo’s sweet tea leaves on your teeth. (The chain has been selling the popular turkeys since 2004.)
A trip to my nearest Bojangles’ in Oxon Hill, Md., yielded a 12-pound Seasoned Fried Turkey in a sealed plastic bag. (The turkeys are roasted, fried in vegetable oil, frozen, and shipped to restaurants; they can be pre-ordered and picked up, frozen or thawed, for around $39.99.) Our dinner guests weren’t expecting to be served turkey five days before Thanksgiving, but they good-naturedly agreed to enjoy a spicy turkey dinner in the name of journalism.
