Francis Bacon painting auctioned for more than $142 million

A painting by artist Francis Bacon sold for $142, 405,000 on Tuesday , breaking the record as the most expensive piece of art ever auctioned , according to a statement from the auction house.

“Three Studies of Lucian Freud” was sold after six minutes of bidding in the room and on the phone at Christie's in New York City according to spokeswoman Elizabeth Van Bergeb.

Painted in 1969 , it is known as one of Bacon's most iconic works, as it features Lucian Freud and the apex of his relationship with Bacon, According to the auction house's statement.

Andrew Wiggins seals Kansas victory over Jabari Parker, Duke

The funny things is jabari Parker-Andrew Wiggins wasn't supposed to be a head-to-head matchup Tuesday in the second game of the Champion Classic.

It wasn't until No. 6 Kansas seemingly ran out of defensive options – Parker had scored 19 points by halftime- that the Jayhawks had to resort to putting their star freshman on No. 4 Duke's .

The matchup didn't happen often, but in those moments, it felt like a college basketball fan dreams.

Pat LaFontaine , Ted Nolan return to Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres on Wdnesday shook up the front office following a franchise-worst 4-15-1 start to the NHL season, firing general manager Dancy Regier and head coach Ron Rolston while welcoming back former star centre Pat Lafontaine and coach Ted Nolan.

LaFontaine , a commentator on New York Rangers broadcasts with Madison Square Network from 2010 until recently , was named the Sabre's president of hocky operations.

Nolan, who was named the NHL's coach of the year in 1997 following his only season guiding the Sabres, is back on an interim basis. He went on to coach the New York Islanders and has been the bench boss of the Latvian national team since 2011 a role he'll continue into the 2014 Sochi Olympics in February.

Arbitrator determines Starbucks must pay $2.76B in dispute with Kraft

An arbitrator has concluded that Starbucks must pay $2.76 billion settle a dispute with Kraft over coffee distibution.

The two consumer products companies had been locked in a fight for three years after Starbucks Corp. fired Kraft as it distributor of packaged coffee to grocery chains.

The arbitrator determined that the Starbucks must pay $2.23 billion in damages and $527 million in attorney fees , Starbucks and Mondelez said Tuesday.

Illinois-based Mondelez International Inc … which spun off Kraft Foods Group in October 2012 will get the award, Mondelez , whose brands included Cadbury , Oreo and Tang said that it plans use the money left after expenses and taxes to buy back stock.

Baldwin's alleged stalker Genevieve Sabourin gets 30 days in jail

Alec Baldwin's alleged stalker Genevieve Sabourin will soon be behind bars.

On wednesday , Nov. 13 Judge Robert Mandelbaum ordered 30 days in jail for Sabourin after she refused to stop interrupting in New York City courtroom. Per WNBC's Andrew Siff, Sabourin continously interrupted her lawyer Todd Spodek , and when she didn't heed to judge's final warning , was held in contempt of court.

Siff reports that Sabourin then went “ on a rant telling the jus=dge court officers molested her this morning.' As the judge then consulted with the attorneys present , Baldwin's alleged stalker remained 'sobbing ' in the court.

Sons of Anarchy spinoff

The latest series hopping on the TV spinoff train is Son's of Anarchy. Kurt Sutter has been in talks with the network to develop a prequel series after Sons of Anarchy' seveth and final season, a source confirms. Ans Sutter opened up about his idea for the potential spinoff at the Sons of Sandy Relief event in Asbury, N.J over the weekend.

“Ive had discusssions with the network about it and I think they are open to it.” he said.

“I think there is something really interesting about the origins of the club. And to do a period piece set in the '60s , post Vietnam could be kind of cool. I dont think we would dovetail and start rigth after the series ended., but it's something I'm potentially , excited about it.”
