Miley Cyrus generates tweets as a sexy Michele Bachmann on 'SNL'

Two major topics of conversation are burning up the Twittersphere these days: Miley Cyrus and thegovernment shutdown. Both came together on Saturday night when Cyrus hosted "SNL" and starred in a racy video called "We Did Stop (the government)" where she plays a crotch-grabbing, tongue-wagging Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) alongside Taran Killam's white-leotard-wearing Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Needless to say, the 20-year-old pop star's performance, which includes her licking an Abraham Lincoln doll and twerking with Boehner while singing a chorus riffing on her popular "We Can't Stop" tune, is generating a lot of buzz on the interwebs.
On Sunday morning the unlikely Google combo of "Miley Cyrus MicheleBachmann" pulled up more than 400,000 results. Twitter was also roaring with chatter on the video, much of it positive. It seems Cyrus' willingness to both mock herself and the GOP appealed to fans, many of whom were divided about her hugely controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year. see more photo ....

Calvin Johnson eyes fast return

Calvin Johnson's absence was evident on the field for the DetroitLions during their 22-9 loss to Green Bay on Sunday.
But Johnson apparently was close to playing despite his knee injury. The star wide receiver was declared inactive Sunday after being listed as questionable throughout the week.
"Realclose," Johnson said. "Obviously we weren't all the way there today, so working hard to get back."
The Lions hope that the knee injury, which was different than the strain Johnson had last season, will not be long-term.
"Calvin's a tough guy," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "He's a hard worker and he's going to work hard to get back as quick as he can."
Schwartz declined to speculate when Johnson, who is the Lions' leading receiver with 21 receptions for 312 yards and four touchdowns, would return. He also is the catalyst for a lot of double teams for opposing defenses.
Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford said he had an idea Johnson might not play on Saturday, but wasn't completely sure until he was ruled inactive following warmups.

"[I knew Johnson was out] about the same time y'all did," Lions receiver Kris Durham said. "We were more prepared like there's a chance he may not play, but we didn't know for sure until he got out there and tested it in warmups and stuff."

In other injury news, running back TheoRiddick was taken to a hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion, but returned to the team by the end of the game and went back to Michigan with the Lions.see more...

Punchless offense leads to Patriots' first loss

Replacing Vince Wilfork in the middle of the defense appeared to be the Patriots’ biggest concern heading into Sunday’s game against the Bengals.

Turns out, the defense was just fine. It was the Patriots’ offense that couldn’t provide any punch in a 13-6 loss as Tom Brady’s incredible touchdown streak ended at 52 consecutive games.

Sunday’s loss was the first time the Patriots failed to score a touch down since Week 2 in 2009. They gained just 279 total yards as Cincinnati’s defensive line overwhelmed the Patriots up front.

ThePatriots rushed for just 70 yards on a 4.1 average, and Brady was sacked four times after not going down once in last week’s win over Atlanta. The Patriots’ last-minute drive ended with Brady throwing a wobbly interception to Adam Jones inside the 10-yard line.

The Patriots, playing with Danny Amendola (four catches, 55 yards) but without Rob Gronkowski, Stevan Ridley or Shane Vereen, certainly had their chances. They got inside the 1-yard line in the fourth quarter, but were unable to punch the ball into the end zone and were forced to settle for a short field goal.

A forced fumble by Devin McCourty late in the fourth gave the Patriots the ball at Cincinnati’s 43, but the offense went nowhere with two straight incompletions and another sack. see more...

Thousand take part in annual CIBC Run for the cure

Nearly six thousand people in Ottawa joined tens of thousands across the country Sunday morning to fight breast cancer.

The annual CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest, single-day, community-driven breast cancer event in Canada.

"Wouldn't it be great one day if we didn't have to run this race, ever, because there was no breast cancer," said Catherine Marion, the Ottawa event's honorary co-chair.

"But for now we have to run, and we have to raisefunds so that's why we're all here today."

Many participants are running with loved ones in mind, including mothers, sisters, and friends who have at one time been diagnosed with breastcancer.

Laureen Harper is a regular participant.

"When you hear the stories it makes you think there’s no excuse for me not to get out here...it’s a lot of fun," she said.

Curtis Milobar is running for his mother, a two-time breast cancer survivor.
"I's become a tradition, so it keeps us closer together, and reminds us to be thankful that she's still there with us, to be our mom every year," Milobar said.

Meet Miriam Carey , suspect reportedly killed in the Capitol Hill shooting

Here's what we know about Miriam Carey, the woman identified in news reports as the suspect in a shooting incident that left Capitol Hill on lockdown for a brief period Thursday afternoon, and has now reportedly been shot dead by police.
According to the New York Post and the New Haven Register newspapers, Carey, a 34-year-old dental hygenist, was involved in the episode that began when she allegedly rammed her black Infiniti luxury sedan into a barricade near the White House. The incident ended when Carey led police on a high-speed car chase towards the U.S.Capitol. After repeatedly warning Carey to stop and get out of her car, the Capitol Police shot and killed her.
The altercation led to the U.S. Capitol being locked down for a brief period of time after shots rang out near Garfield Circle, in the vicinity of the Hart Senate Office Building.
Carey, who has ties to both Stamford, Conn., and Brooklyn, N.Y., hails from a condominium complex in Stamford called Woodside Green, according to the Register, and was permitted to work as a hygenist in Connecticut prisons, the Post reported. see more...

Five Things to know before the 'Scandal' season three premiere

Scandal’ may be TV’s most exhilarating drama. It also may be its most confusing. To get ready for Thursday’s season three premiere, here are the five biggest plot points from season two.
ABC’spolitical-drama-soap-opera-romantic-thriller is absolutely bonkers. In a given episode, a sex tape will be revealed, a main character will have a heart attack, the President and the First Lady will break up and get back together, and someone will try to kill Kerry Washington. The screen cuts to black. You breathe a sigh of relief. Then you have the realization that this isn’t the end of the episode, but just the first commercial break.
To call Scandal TV’s wildest series would be true, but also a gross understatement of the level of transfixing craziness the drama serves up week after week. Starring Kerry Washington as D.C. crisis manager Olivia Pope, wearer of the District’s most immaculate wardrobe,  each episode of Scandal merges a weekly case—the “scandal” of the week, if you will—with the torrid tale of Pope’s hot-and-cold-and-then-scalding-and-then-frigid love affair with the (very married) President of the United States (Tony Goldwyn). There’s also an election-rigging cover-up, a mole in the White House, and a top-secret government organization that’s attempting to assassinate the show’s lead, to name a few of the high-octane plot lines. see more ...

"I don't think we begin shooting before March of next year," Jackson told TheWall Street Journal of the Joss Whedon-written and directed Marvel sequel. "I know we're shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don't know what she's doing, if she's on the inside or the outside. I haven't seen a script."

He doesn't specifically say what role she's playing, but Hitfix notes it had been rumored that she was circling the role of Scarlet Witch.
