U.S. Government shutdown

The U.S. government could close its doors Tuesday if Congress can’t reach a deal on a temporary spending budget bill, and that would jeopardize the paycheques of more than 800,000 Americans, as well as the country’s economic recovery.
It's political bickering between Democrats and Republicans in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, along with Republican in-fighting, that has brought the country to the brink of a shutdown yet again.

Once more, the U.S. Congress is deadlocked on a temporary spending bill that needs to pass in order to keep funding the federal government's operations, its employees and the services they provide.
Congress hasn’t passed any of the annual bills that fund various government agencies, so it has had to rely on stop gap measures that are known as continuing resolutions. The government needs to pass another one as soon as possible to keep the cash flowing beyond Sept. 30. more details...

Once Upon A time

OnceUpon A Time came back in a big way Sept. 29, as Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and her merry band of rescuers finally reached Neverland on the third season premiere. Following the episode’s final-moment twist — that Henry’s (Jared Gilmore) new travel companion is actually Peter Pan, the very villain he’s been trying to escape – HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine spoke with executive producer Eddy Kitsis about where season three will go from here.
For starters, what we saw from Pan (Robbie Kay) on the season premiere was merely a taste of the “twisted” behavior we can expect to see in the coming weeks. He may look like an innocent 15-year-old boy, but as Eddy notes, he’s not to be taken lightly.
He has that wisdom, but he’s also got the spunk of that kid who’s still going to taunt you in the locker room,” Eddy explains.
Fans will really start to understand Pan’s intentions on the Oct. 6 episode. more details...

Ronan Farrow in Talks to Host MSNBC

Ronan Farrow is in talks to host his own program on MSNBC, likely joining the progressive network's weekend lineup, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Farrow -- a journalist and human rights activist and the only biological child of MiaFarrow and Woody Allen -- has served in the Obama administration's foreign policy department and also at the State Department, where he founded the Office of Global Youth Issues and was an advisor to former Secretary of State HillaryClinton during the Arab Spring uprising.

The 25-year-old Rhodes Scholar has appeared on MSNBC and CNN and also has written for multiple publications including The Wall Street JournalInternational Herald Tribune and The Atlantic. His television experience is limited, but he fits the wonky mold of MSNBC in the Rachel Maddow era.
Like his mother, Farrow has advocated for children caught in armed conflicts, and addressed the issues of AIDS in Africa and the genocide in Darfur. A graduate of Yale Law School and member of the New York Bar, Farrow is something of a child prodigy.
He's been involved in NGO work since he was a teenager. As a special adviser for humanitarian and NGO affairs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, he was a close colleague of the late Richard Holbrookesee more...

Michelle Rodriguez comes out!

The Fast & Furious 6 actress didn’t hold back with the details after insisting she doesn’t pick sides in the bedroom when the lights go out.
The 35-year-old Texan beauty told  Entertainment WeeklyI’ve never walked the carpet with anyone, so they wonder: What does she do with her vagina?’

Explaining her tomboy act, the star continued: ‘I play a butchy girl all the time, so they assume I’m a lesbo. I’ve gone both ways. I do as I please. I am too f***ing curious to sit here and not try when I can. Men are intriguing. So are chicks.’

The star has been linked in the past to 46-year-old co-star Vin Diesel and 33-year-old Terminator 3 actress Kristanna Loken.

She joins Amber Heard, Lindsay Lohan and Angelina Jolie as other openly bi-sexual actresses in Hollywood. see more...

Britney Spear's 'Work Bitch' music video

Britney Spears invited us all on a journey back in time late Tuesday night, when she debuted the music video for her club-banger of a new track, “Work Bitch.” The video is classic Britney. In a sex-dripping, fierce fashion we haven’t seen from her in years, she, quite simply, gets to work. Bitch.
It’s a vintage Britney video, in every absurd and amazing meaning of that label. It’s utterly nonsensical, yet tantalizing.
She’s gyrating against a white wall, flanked by female backup dancers dressed in leather. She’s gazing at herself sultrily at a vanity in the middle of a barren desert. Now the leather-clad backup dancers join her on a white platform for some floor choreography in the middle of said barren desert.
Britney then throws down some spritely choreography in what looks like an underground club. Then there’s some sensuous choreography in what looks like a different underground club. Then she wields a riding crop and whips some backup dancer who is ball-gagged and on a leash for some kinky choreography in what looks like yet another different underground club. see more details..

The bird mummies of Natron

The Rift Valley's Lake Natron is the chosen mating ground of the endangered lesser flamingo. The long-legged waterfowl may flourish, but to any other living creature, Lake Natron is hell on earth
The lake's steeply alkaline waters are a graveyard for thousands of small birds. Wildlife photographer NickBrandt used the corpses littering the Tanzanian lake shores as posed models for a haunting new series of photographs.
Natron is usually a toasty 80 degrees Fahrenheit and blood-red frombacteria, the only living things that can survive its deadly alkalinity. Lately, it's earned a reputation for washing up the bodies of small animals on its shores, each wrapped in a delicatecrusty shroud.
Brandt was captivated by startlingly well-preserved bodies of bats, flamingos, eagles and swallows, and created a whole series of photographs to document the eerie phenomenon.

"I unexpectedly found the creatures — all manner of birds and bats — washed up along the shoreline of Lake Natron in Northern Tanzania," Brandt told NBC News in an email. "I took these creatures as I found them on the shoreline, and then placed them in 'living' positions, bringing them back to 'life.'" see more..

Bestselling author Tom Clancy dies at 66

TomClancy, the bestselling U.S. author of popular spy and military-themed thrillers such as "The Hunt for Red October" and "Patriot Games," has died at the age of 66.

Clancy first came to international attention in 1984, after selling his thriller "The Hunt for Red October," to the first publisher he solicited: the Naval Institute Press. Clancy's book was the first novel the publisher had ever released.

The book enjoyed widespread success, with then U.S. President Ronald Reagan even saying he was losing sleep because he couldn't stop reading it -- a statement Clancy later said helped put him on the New York Times bestseller list. see more...
